Bored? Why Not Play a Board Game?

Board Games are a Great Alternative to Electronic Games

This holiday season, give your electronic toys a rest and return your attention to a family board game. These games are timeless and well known across generations in your friends and family. On of the best concepts of board games is the addition of “house rules” so that the game could be enjoyed by your own competitive atmosphere. Consider turning off the T.V. or setting the Nintendo aside to play a good old-fashioned board game.

A Time-Tested Favorite

With all of the cash floating around this holiday season, why break out a game of Monopoly. It is great game played from the beginner level all the way to competitive monopoly tournaments. Newcomers to the game will pick up rather quickly because it is a game based upon simple arithmetic. For some creative house rules, allow all fees paid from Chance and Community Chest card be placed into the middle of the board. This money will accumulate and be paid to whomever lands on Free Parking.

Monopoly is an old classic that has been revived in many new styles. There are Monopoly games for numerous towns and cities, and there are also Monopoly games featuring favorite cartoon characters.

Anyone Up For Trivia?

For a trivia game board game, Trivial Pursuit is an excellent game played for many generations. If an adult plays this game with a youngster, allow the youngster to answer the questions in a multi-choice format. Simply read the question and give the youngster three choices. One of them is the correct choice, and the other two will be made up by you. Or, if the game is played with four people, create two teams of two players. This will allow each team to collaborate on each question before giving an answer.

You could create a house rule where a certain color category is replaced with your favorite color category. This will keep the game moving and allow you to enjoy asking questions about your favorite topics. There is even a new Trivial Pursuit game out now that focuses solely on the ‘80s.

The Challenge of Chess

Do you want to play a competitive game of chess? Chess is a classic board game that has been enjoyed by people from all walks of life for centuries. If both players have different skill levels, allow the stronger player to start without a rook. In addition, you could provide the weaker player with a “double move pass.” Using the pass, allows that player to take to turns in a row.

The above board games can provide hours of entertainment and allow you and your family to spend quality time together.
