Discover the Fun of Frisbee

Frisbee: Wholesome American Fun

No one can debate the fact that the good old Frisbee has provided countless hours of wholesome fun to millions of people. Not only is Frisbee fun, it gets your body moving and is good for you too. However, if you think Frisbee is nothing more than throwing a flying disc back and forth between you and a friend, you don’t know what you’re missing.

The History of the Frisbee

Most of us take the Frisbee for granted with little thought as to where it originated from. The history of the Frisbee is actually quite interesting. Back in the 1800s the Frisbie Baking Company starting making pies to sell to local college students in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It didn’t take too long for the students to figure out that the pans from these pies could be used as a flying disc, providing them with hours of fun.

In 1948 the first plastic Frisbee was made and in 1957 the toy company Wham-O bought the rights to the Frisbee design and started producing and marketing the Frisbee, although the name wasn’t Frisbee at the time, it was the Pluto Platter. After a while the name was changed from the Pluto Platter to Frisbee and the first professional Frisbee model was made available in 1964.

Multitudes of Uses

As I said earlier, while the Frisbee may have started out as nothing more than a pie tin being tossed between college friends, there are many more uses for the Frisbee today. Don’t get me wrong, the Frisbee is still used in the basic game of Frisbee catch, but the Frisbee is also used in sports like Ultimate Frisbee and Frisbee golf.

Ultimate Frisbee

Ultimate Frisbee is a sport that combines aspects of soccer, football, basketball, and netball into a fun and challenging sport. The rules of the game are pretty straightforward and most people have no problem picking it up. If you’re a sports enthusiast that likes Frisbee, you’ll love Ultimate Frisbee.

Frisbee Golf

Frisbee golf, also referred to as disc golf or frolf, is a sport that was introduced in 1976. The rules of Frisbee golf are based on the rules of traditional golf. Frisbee golf Frisbees are smaller and heavier than your typical Frisbee. Frisbee golf players take these Frisbees and throw them towards a target on the Frisbee golf course. Applying the rules of golf, whoever plays the best game wins.

If you’re looking for something new and exciting to do, get your friends together and start a game of Ultimate Frisbee or Frisbee golf. Who knows, you may even want to join an association or a league.
