Have Fun with a Collage
Making a Collage Can Be the Perfect Way to Spend a Rainy Day
Making a collage is one of my most favorite memories of childhood. Most young kids love playing with glue, and making a collage is a fun activity to do with little ones. Something about the texture of glue and the fact that you can get messy when making a collage is what probably makes it fun. Making a collage is a just great way to spend a lazy afternoon and use a lot of glue at the same time! If you’d like to enjoy the collage experience with your children, read on…
A Cost-Effective Family Project
The beauty and versatility of making a collage is that you really don’t need any expensive materials. All you really need is a sheet of poster board, glue, scissors, and some old magazines, and if your house is like mine, you probably have a dozen magazines lying around.
Creative Freedom
When making a collage, you can any pick theme you want. If you have preschoolers, you can gear the project towards their level. Have your child make a collage focused on one letter of the alphabet. Give him old magazines to page through so that he can select pictures that begin with the letter he’s chosen. The next time you can pick a different letter!
You could also focus your collage on a single theme. In October, you can do an autumn collage. Your preschooler can select pictures that fit with this theme such as pumpkins and trees. While you have all the materials out, make two or three collages. They make great surprise gifts to give your child’s grandparents or aunts or uncles. While you’re helping your little ones, make your own collage too!
When making a collage you can alter the color poster board you use to fit with your theme. If you are making a Christmas collage, use red or green poster board. For Halloween, use orange poster board, and for Valentine’s Day, of course, use red poster board.
The next time your kids complain they are bored and need something fun to do have them make a collage.
