Horseback Riding For Beginners
Anyone who says that horseback riding isn’t a sport has never been on a horse.
If you’ve never been on a horse, you don’t know what you’re missing. As large and intimidating as they may be, there’s nothing quite as thrilling as feeling the power of such a magnificent animal beneath you and the wind rushing against you as you gallop along on the trails. But how do you get started if you’re interested in horseback riding?
Take Lessons
The first step you should take when becoming interested in horseback riding is to find a qualified horseback riding instructor. While you can hit the trails on one of those push-button trail horses, it’s not the same as actually horseback riding, so you’ll want to take some lessons.
English or Western
Before you start your horseback riding lessons, you’ll want to decide whether you’re going to ride English or Western. English is a smaller saddle without a horn. If you like the jumpers that you see on television and you want to give that a whirl, English is for you. If you prefer the old western movies and want to ride like the cowboys did, Western riding is for you.
Once you know which style of riding you prefer, set up a few lessons with a horseback riding instructor and see how you like it. Horseback riding isn’t for everyone, but if you’re one of those who has it in your blood, you’re sure to have a blast.
