Rainy Day Activities that are Fun to Do

If you run into a rainy day and are looking for activities that are fun to do with your kids, look no further. There are plenty of things that you can do to pass the time away and they’re inexpensive to boot.

A Princess’s Castle

Young children love building indoor structures, including forts, tents, and castles. One easy way to build a fort involves a quick makeover of your dining room table. Take an old sheet or two and think of a theme to paint on the sheet. If you have a daughter who loves princesses and castles, make the sheet into a castle. Use fabric paint to paint pictures of windows and a dragon. Also cut out a door and even windows. The easiest way to accomplish this is to drape the sheet (or sheets if you have a large table) over your dining room table and use masking tape to get a quick idea of how to outline your design. You will want the window of your castle to be on the side, not on the part of the sheet that will be lying over the top of the table. After the fabric paint dries, you are all ready to go. You can even buy blue sheets to mimic the water in the moat surrounding the castle. Simply pull out the sheets and place them over the tabletop for an afternoon of fun.

A Baseball Dugout

If you have a boy who loves baseball, the area under your dining room table can be a dugout and you can paint a baseball theme on the outside. You can buy green sheets to be used as the grass on the baseball field. Just look for clearance bins at your local department store. Involve the kids in the design phase of this activity.

Fun with Cardboard

Large unused cardboard boxes can also be converted to play structures. A pair of scissors and some paint is all you need to create a makeshift “post office” or store. Another activity that is fun to do and involves cardboard boxes is to make a cat condo. Cats love cardboard boxes, and you can take a small cardboard box and convert it to a miniature house if you own a cat.

When it comes to rainy days, there are plenty of creative things you can do inside. With a few clearance items and some imagination, you can transform your entire house into a family-friendly fantasy land.
