Take a Polar Plunge
A Polar Plunge May Be the Answer to Your Boredom
Want to do something fun and crazy and possibly benefit a good cause while you’re at it? Well, throw on your bathing suit and get ready to take a polar plunge. After all, how can the thousands of people who do it each year be wrong?
Taking the Polar Plunge
Well, maybe you’re not really in your bathing suit, but a polar plunge does involve jumping into a freezing cold body of water in the middle of winter. Perhaps the most popular polar plunge is the one that is done each year in Chicago to benefit the Special Olympics. Each year participants collect pledges from friends and family members and then immerse themselves in the freezing cold waters of Lake Michigan.
If you don’t live near Chicago, don’t fret. There’s likely a polar plunge near you. For example, the polar plunge in Boston raises money for education and services for abused women and children. If there isn’t, why not team up with a deserving local charity and orchestrate one to raise funds for their needs?
When taking a polar plunge, just remember safety first. If the water’s too cold when you take a polar plunge, don’t wear a bathing suit, wear protective clothing instead. Just remember, have fun and enjoy the cold!
