The World of Making Pottery

Making Pottery Can Be Fun and Rewarding

If you’re looking for a fun and rewarding pastime, you might find that making pottery can be the rewarding hobby you’ve been looking for. There’s something to be said for creating something from almost nothing. Creating beautiful artwork from raw clay is an experience that many find very fulfilling. So how do you get started?

Get Some Materials

If you want to get started making pottery, you’re going to want to get some materials. That doesn’t mean you should run right out and buy a pottery wheel. On the contrary, you don’t really need a pottery wheel to get started making pottery. What you do need, however, is clay. Go to your local hobby store or your local hobby pottery shop and buy the clay you need to get started.

Firing Your Pottery

Now when you create pottery from clay, you’re going to need to have the clay fired. Since a kiln can be quite costly, you’re probably not going to run out and buy one right away. Because of this, you’ll need to take your pottery to a local hobby shop in order to get your pottery fired. Make some phone calls from your yellow pages and see what hobby shops offering firing services in your area.

A local hobby shop may also offer pottery classes, which are a great way to get started making pottery. So make some phone calls and see what’s being offered in your area.
