Watching a Movie is Fun to Do If You Read the Book First

Comparing the Movie and the Book is Fun to Do

I have a secret about something that is fun to do. It's something that is incredibly enjoyable, yet many people wouldn’t even consider it fun. However, those of us in the know understand just how fun it can be. Want to know what it is? There's only one way to find out...

Reading Is NOT Only For Nerds

You certainly must be wondering what I could possibly be talking about. Still curious? Okay. I have found that reading a book then watching the movie is fun to do. Okay, you’re still not convinced. It might not be exciting in the sense that an upcoming party is exciting, but it is certainly very enjoyable. Reading a book then watching a movie that was based on the book is pretty cool. Another great thing is that there are sometimes multiple movies made based on the same book, and you can watch all of them and compare them.

Stephen King's Books Are The Best

One great book that you can read first before watching the movie is The Dark Half by Stephen King. I have never watched a movie after reading the book and felt that the mental images I had while reading the book matched those portrayed in the movie. Not the case with this book. All of the images I had in my mind while reading the book actually were very similar to the movie. It’s also interesting to see what parts were in the book but didn’t make it to the final cut of the movie.

Sometimes you might be disappointed with the movie because you feel it pales in comparison to the book. That definitely does happen more often than not. Just realize that if you watch a movie first, you will certainly not be able to enjoy the book if you ever read it. I guess if you don’t think reading is fun to do, then it might not be a concern for you.

The Classics Are a Fun Read Too

After reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, I was compelled to see the movie. I headed to the video store in search of the recent movie out just last year. It wasn’t checked in, but I discovered that there was an A&E version of the movie. I rented that instead and loved it. When I went to return it, the newer Hollywood version was checked in, so I rented it. I didn’t like it nearly as much. The A&E version of Pride and Prejudice closely follows the book’s plot and retains the language Austen used. I felt the newer version cut out too much and generally felt very rushed. Watching the A&E version was certainly fun to do, but the more modern Hollywood take lost the book’s original charm.

There are countless options of movies based on books. The next time a big movie comes out, see if there is a book that it is based on and read it first. I’m almost certain you will find reading the book before watching the movie very fun to do.
