Your State Capital May Offer More Than You Realize
Have You Been to Your State Capital?
Visiting your state capital is a fun way to spend a day or even a week. If you’ve never been to your state capital before, you don’t quite know what you are missing. A state capital is usually rich in history and tradition and also has many great sightseeing opportunities. Best part is that every state has a state capital so no matter what part of the country you live in, you can make this trip a reality.
Take a Tour
When you visit the state capital, you can get the opportunity to see your state legislature in action. Plan your visit for when your state legislature is in session. Practically all state capitals provide guided tours of the legislature buildings. These tours will allow you to ask questions to a knowledgeable tour guide.
Museums Galore
If the legislative branch of your state government is not your cup of tea, the state capital typically provides plenty of other sites to see. Capital districts usually have a plethora of museums to visit. For the budget conscience travelers, these museums often have a free or reduced admission day. So plan your outings accordingly.
Rubbing Elbows With the Decision Makers
Will you get a chance to meet your representative when you visit your state capital? If you call in advance, the answer is maybe. This may sound a little far fetched, but it is not totally out of the question. Remember, your state representative has been elected to represent you. To make this happen, call your representative over the phone. Most likely, a receptionist or intern will answer the phone. Explain that you would like a quick photo or conversation with your representative. If you are lucky, you may be able to meet your representative for five or ten minutes in his or her office.
Call the tourism office located in your state capital. You can receive tourism materials to help you plan your visit to your state capital.
